Chen Zhang, JD’s CTO, heads our R&D efforts. He leads a team of approximately 12,000 engineers and researchers focused on driving R&D growth in big data and cloud computing, as well as technical advances that enhance the online shopping experience. Chen is an industry veteran - prior to joining JD.com, he worked at Yahoo for 18 years, where he was at one point responsible for the development of Yahoo Messenger and more recently heading the global research and development center at Yahoo Beijing. Before that, he worked in DEC and Oracle Corporation as head of technology.

Testing is a frequent pain point for many online consumers given that it’s difficult to judge just by looking at photos of products whether or not they will actually work when customers try them. With JD’s AR technology customers can try products like fashion and cosmetics whenever and wherever they want.
